New Fox Sports president Jamie Horowitz has made his first big hire. Charlie Dixon, formerly a programming executive at NBC News and ESPN, is becoming the executive vice president of content and production for Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. He will work out of Los Angeles and report directly to Horowitz, and is set to begin his new gig on Aug. 2.
“Charlie brings us strong leadership, a keen knowledge of content, and a clever understanding of what programming resonates with sports fans on all screens,” Horowitz said in an official press release announcing Dixon’s hiring. “He is a great fit for the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit that I have found since coming to FOX Sports, and I can’t wait for him to begin working with the talented and creative people we already have in place.”
(Perhaps Colin Cowherd should really be considered Horowitz’s first big hire. But that move isn’t yet official. And maybe that was in the works before Horowitz took his position.)
Dixon comes to Fox Sports from NBC, where he was the Senior Vice President of Development working with MSNBC and NBC News.
More importantly for the purposes of his new job, Dixon previously worked with Horowitz at ESPN, developing Olbermann, Numbers Never Lie and Cowherd’s New Football Show, while also overhauling First Take. Another intriguing note on Dixon’s résumé is his stint running the digital media department at IMG where he launched the first made-for-mobile sports network. That certainly opens the door to some potentially interesting changes and additions to the Fox Sports 1 lineup.
