The Dallas Stars have announced that NHL on NBC voice Dave Strader will join their TV team with analyst Daryl Reaugh. Since 2011, Strader has been the “B” announcer on the NHL on NBC, but for the past two seasons, would not work the conference final.
Strader and Reaugh are not strangers as they have worked on NBC/NBCSN broadcasts over the past few years. The Stars made the announcement Friday after looking for a replacement for long-time play-by-play man Ralph Strangis.
Among the candidates that were considered to replace Strangis included former NHL on ESPN announcer Gary Thorne and current Carolina Hurricanes voice John Forslund. However, the Stars chose Strader who has also called games for the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers and the Phoenix Coyotes.
Dave was happy to learn he had been chosen to replace Strangis:
During his time on NBC, Strader also called women’s basketball during the 2012 London Olympics. He’ll continue to work for the Peacock when he doesn’t have a Stars conflict.
Strader is a solid voice and calls a very good setting up his partners well. He and Reaugh already have an on-air chemistry so they should not take long to jell when they begin working in earnest for the 2015-16 season this fall.
