The NFL on CBS revealed their 2015 broadcast teams and decided to stand pat, making almost no changes in the booth.
CBS will be broadcasting Super Bowl 50 next February, and they will be employing their top stalwarts, Jim Nantz and Phil Simms, with Tracy Wolfson on the sidelines once again. This same trio is also responsible for CBS’ slate of Thursday Night Football. Behind them, Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts remain the second team, with Evan Washburn as their sideline reporter.
In the third slot, Greg Gumbel and Trent Green return in the booth and Jamie Erdahl replaces fellow NESN alum Jenny Dell as sideline reporter. There are eight teams listed this year compared to just six last year, but the final two pairings are not additions as all four broadcasters were on standby for whenever CBS needed more broadcasters in a weekend. It seems like the change is only in how these teams are listed as opposed to a promotion for the bottom tier quartet.
In studio, James Brown leads the exact same group of analysts, with Jason La Canfora continuing on as the show’s insider. Mike Carey returns as CBS’ rules expert, hopefully a little more engaging than last year. I’m not surprised by the lack of shakeups from CBS, though I can’t understand how Carey earned himself another shot as rules expert. It seemed like every time he was used, his call did not match the final decision by the referees. And if you ask Carey, he was always right.
Overall, it’s clear CBS did not want to rock the boat after shaking up their broadcast teams last season. Considering their teams tend to be liked, they’re going to give everyone another chance to entrench themselves. The full list of NFL on CBS broadcast teams is listed below.
