Fox Sports is expanding their team for the 2015 Women’s World Cup this June and they’re doing so by calling on a member from Sky Sports in the UK. Kate Abdo will join Fox Sports and assist Rob Stone in anchoring the programming surrounding the tournament.
Abdo is no stranger to Fox Sports and she’s well versed when it comes to soccer. She hosted the FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich and also hosted Sky Sports’ coverage of the Premier League’s Deadline Day along with European soccer coverage. On the Fox Sports side, Abdo previously worked with Fox Sports and Stone to cover the Women’s World Cup Draw.
This is a solid addition by Fox. Abdo has already worked with Stone and the pair should have some immediate chemistry. She already has a strong track record when it comes to covering professional soccer and she’ll be a perfect fit for Fox Sports’ Women’s World Cup coverage.
It’s an interesting move from Fox since they’ve been very set on having as many American voices as possible covering their major soccer events. Abdo represents the first import from the UK. Given Fox’s corporate connection to Sky Sports in the UK (both owned by News Corp.) it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more Sky personnel fill out the roster spots for the tournament this summer.
