It’s hard to believe that Big Ten Network will enter its 10th year of operation. Back in 2007, Big Ten Network debuted with the monumental Appalachian State upset of Michigan and hasn’t looked back. Being one of the most successful league-owned networks, Big Ten Network is trying to stay fresh with some new original programs premiering this fall.
Coming off its successful Scarlet and Gray Days: Inside Ohio State Training Camp, Big Ten Network will shift to another school with Green and White Days: Inside Michigan State Training Camp. The show premieres on Thursday, August 18 at 7 p.m. ET and will look at the Spartans preseason practices as the team prepares to defend its Big Ten conference title:
Big Ten Network says it will take its college football pregame show on the road this season. It will debut BTN Tailgate on September 24. The show will be live from a different Big Ten campus each week while conference play is underway. BTN Tailgate will be 90 minutes and air each Saturday morning at 10:30 ET.
BTN original and former ESPN Dream Job winner Mike Hall will host a new show called Sports Lite. It will be Big Ten Network’s first late night show. It will have reporters in both New York and Los Angeles offering what is being billed as “an unbuttoned take on Big Ten events and personalities from coast-to-coast,” whatever that means. Sports Lite with Mike Hall promises that this will show the Big Ten conference in a “new lite.”
Finally, Big Ten Network will offer its first show catering to foodies. Called “Campus Eats,” the show will look at unique restaurants in the Big Ten conference footprint. Troy Johnson and Jenny Dell will co-host at this eight-episode series that will look at various offerings like breakfast, burgers, dessert, food trucks, pizza and sandwiches. It’s probably best not to watch the show if you’re hungry.
So Big Ten Network hopes that the slate of original programming will attract new viewers and show it can be more than just live sports.
