While they might not have the cache of Duke or Kentucky, The Gonzaga Bulldogs are a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament, having gone 17 seasons in a row, including last year’s run to the Elite Eight. So if you’re going to do a documentary series banking on a college basketball program to make it to the Big Dance, they’re a pretty good one to bet on.
HBO is taking that bet when they debut an unscripted five-episode series chronicling the Gonzaga men’s basketball team. Dubbed GONZAGA: THE MARCH TO MADNESS, the docuseries will follow the West Coast Conference squad’s 2015-2016 season, starting in November as they charge towards another March Madness. The series will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and insightful looks at the personalities involved with the program. Most of all, the series will try to answer the question of how a small college out in Spokane has become such a basketball powerhouse.
Narrated by Live Schreiber, the series will debut on Tuesday, February 16 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Each successive episode will follow on Tuesdays at the same time with the finale on March 15, which just so happens to be the first day of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
A year removed from the best season in school history (35-3), the Zags are currently 13-3 and well on their way to dominating the West Coast Conference yet again. An early-season trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis as well as early season battled against Arizona and UCLA are sure to come up in early episodes of the show.
