If you’re Joe Namath, you’re known for wanting to kiss broadcasters. It’s what you do. Saturday’s Alabama-Auburn Iron Bowl saw a very meta appearance, with former Alabama quarterback Namath showing up in the broadcast booth to pay tribute to surprise legendary CBS announcer Verne Lundquist (calling his final Iron Bowl) and planting a kiss on him. Here’s the start of their conversation:
And Namath’s exiting kiss:
That’s quite the fur coat Namath has, something he’s long been famed for. It’s great to see him show up to surprise Lundquist, and this is definitely a much more positive appearance than Namath’s a href=”http://deadspin.com/10-years-ago-today-joe-namath-wanted-to-kiss-you-1487103791″ target=”_blank”>last broadcast attempted kiss. This is one more way to illustrate how much Lundquist has meant to this game (see his thoughts on the Kick Six in particular) and this sport, and while he’s received plenty of other nice moments this year, this one’s quite the highlight. There’s only one Joe Namath, and there’s only one Verne Lundquist.
