Bounties are sensitive subjects now in the NFL, and for good reason, because they promote excessive and unwarranted violence for a little extra money. The league is probably really going to bristle at the fact that NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger suggested that the Eagles should do just that when they play the Cowboys on Sunday.
Baldinger told 97.5 The Fan in Philadelphia how the Eagles should attempt to stop Cowboys’ rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott with “a little bounty.”
“This is the guy that that we’ve got to hurt,” Baldinger said, via Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk. “This is the guy that we’ve got to take out of the game. There’s got to be 10 guys that want to hurt him every single play. In fact, we may even put a little bounty on Ezekiel Elliott.”
“You want to cut off the head to kill the body, that’s the guy you’ve got to get to.”
Baldinger wasn’t a huge fan of Elliot during the Draft process, especially after he accused Elliot of “arrogance”. Certainly, no one on the Eagles staff is suggesting this, and no one at the league offices would want anyone to encourage this, but it’s still not a good look to have an analyst throwing this out there.
How about not mentioning bounties anymore, NFL analysts? Is that so hard?
