It’s not often that the best announcer call in a game comes on a punt, but it happened Saturday, thanks to Joe Tessitore.
Texas A&M punter Tyler White booted the ball from around midfield with just a few seconds remaining in the first half against Missouri. Really, no one expected anything to happen in this situation, and Tessitore’s voice reflected those low expectations as the ball landed near the end zone.
“And this punt is going to …” he began. But then the ball, instead of going into the end zone, took two or three crazy bounces before going out of bounds inches from the goal line.
“You can’t even dream it up!” Tessitore said. “I mean, are you kidding me? By Tyler White the punter! As if he’s got a joystick controller in his hands and just went hard left!”
It gets better — the ball bounced right toward and then past the SEC on ABC pylon cam.
“Watch this on the Progressive Pylon Cam!” Tessitore said.
“If you want to know, is everything going Texas A&M’s way, watch the bounce of this ball,” Tessitore continued.
“As if there was a magnetic force field on that goal line. … so even when they punt away to close out the half, it’s golden.”
A great call by Tessitore, a fantastic punt by White, and kudos to the pylon cam, which had a starring role on that play.
