If you’re a football analyst on a major network, there’s a pretty decent chance you’ve changed jobs in 2017.
On Tuesday, CBS Sports Network announced it had hired former NFL offensive lineman David Diehl to serve as a college football game analyst for the upcoming season. Diehl, who will continue to work on Fox’s NFL telecasts, will call games alongside play-by-play man Jason Horowitz on CBS Sports Network’s No. 6 college football team. Their sideline reporter will be Erik Coleman, another longtime NFL player, who also joins the network for next season.
Diehl’s move to CBS is the latest development in a busy football offseason for both CBS and FOX. As we detailed last week, CBS replaced Phil Simms with Tony Romo, replaced Solomon Wilcots with James Lofton and watched Tony Gonzalez leave for Fox, which also added Jay Cutler and Mark Schlereth and shook up its broadcaster pairings.
The latest
After playing at Illinois in college, Diehl lasted 11 NFL seasons, all for the New York Giants, at various position on the offensive line. He was named to one Pro Bowl, in 2009.
Last week, CBS Sports Network announced the hiring of former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, who slotted onto the network’s No. 2 college football team. At 26 years old, Murray will be one of the youngest sports analysts on television.
CBS Sports Network has a solid lineup of college football games for the 2017 season, with games featuring Stanford, Oregon, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Boise State and others. Here’s the full lineup of the network’s college football broadcasters:
