Football is a collision sport. And Michigan quarterback Alex Orji found out on Saturday that it’s not just the players on the field that you have to watch out for, but giant camera cranes as well.
With the Wolverines trailing in the fourth quarter by two touchdowns against the top ranked Oregon Ducks, Michigan faced a 4th and 5 on the doorstep of the endzone. In need of some magic to stay in the game, Michigan dialed up a trick play that featured to Orji receiving a pass from Semaj Morgan in the corner of the endzone.
Unfortunately, the play did not work as designed as the ball was well overthrown out of the endzone. And that’s where Orji met with not just someone holding a camera on the sidelines, but a giant crane operating an overhead camera. Brad Nessler noted that it looked to be one of the CBS cameras that was covering the action.
The sidelines in the Big House are notoriously cramped. How did that thing even get into the stadium and tucked away into the corner of the endzone?
Thankfully, Alex Orji appeared to be unhurt after the collision, which was one of the harder hits you will probably see throughout the football weekend. And next time, maybe Michigan can design their trick play to the other side of the endzone so that it doesn’t end with one of their quarterbacks getting clotheslined by a camera crane.
