Vanderbilt pulled what may be the biggest upset of the college football season on Saturday, upsetting No. 1 Alabama 40-35. After the game, Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia was – to say the least – excited.
Pavia had a huge game against Alabama. The Vanderbilt quarterback was 16-for-20, passing for 252 touchdowns and no interceptions. He added 56 yards rushing on 20 carries. That included a game-sealing eight-yard run on the game’s final possession.
This was Vanderbilt’s first win against a No. 1 ranked team and was the program’s first win over Alabama since 1984, snapping a 23-game losing streak to the Tide. Naturally, after the win, the Vanderbilt fans at FirstBank Stadium flooded the field. In the sea of humanity, SEC Network sideline reporter Alyssa Lang found Pavia for her first postgame interview. And it was a doozy.
Lang asked Pavia what was going through his mind. The quarterback took it from there.
“It’s literally all God’s timing. Literally from the jump. God gave me a vision when I was a little kid…It’s God’s timeline. I’m super thankful for guys like Eli Stowers. Man, that kid’s incredible. The rest of our team. Look at this. Look at this. VANDY WE’RE F*****G TURNT.”
Lang then asked Pavia what he was saying to the team at the end of the game.
“S***. Games like this change your life. You know what I mean? It’s all about hype nowadays. I don’t like it like that. It’s a reality of NIL and all that stuff. Just stay grounded. Be where my feet are every single day. Tomorrow I gotta worry about Kentucky.”
The next question was about Pavia’s 70 family members in attendance. Before he could answer, he began celebrating with those family members, ending the memorable interview.
