Adrian Wojnarowski consulted with Peter King before retiring

In the time since his shocking retirement from reporting in September, Adrian Wojnarowski has remained steadfast in his decision.

But as it turns out, the former NBA insider wasn’t always so sold on the idea of turning in his press pass.

Earlier this week, former NFL reporter Peter King — who is nearly a year into his own retirement — appeared on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast. And over the course of his interview, the former Monday Morning Quarterback author revealed that Wojnarowski had actually consulted with him before making the decision to retire himself.

“Adrian Wojnarowski called me in the middle of the summer and said, ‘Hey, I got a couple of questions for you. Have you regretted your decision on retirement at any point?'” King revealed. “And I said, ‘No. Not at all.’ And he said, ‘You never on Sunday night say, man, I wish I could write about that?’ And I said, ‘No, I haven’t thought about it at all.’ And that was one of Woj’s fact-finding calls before he made his decision.'”

While Wojnarowski’s sudden retirement in mid-September might not have caught King off guard considering he had already been made aware the former ESPN star was at least contemplating it, that put him in the minority. The 55-year-old’s decision to leave sports media to become the general manager of the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team shocked most both inside and outside the industry, especially considering that it came just before the start of the NBA season.

In the time since, Wojnarowski hasn’t avoided the spotlight, which makes sense given his new role with his alma mater. He also recently revealed to Sports Illustrated‘s Chris Mannix that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which he said played a role in his decision to retire from reporting.

Much like Woj, King hasn’t shied away from making media appearances in retirement, but doesn’t appear to be somebody who’s itching to get back in the insider game. All things considered, both sportswriting legends are seemingly at peace with their decisions, which is exactly what Wojnarowski seemed to be looking for when he called King last summer.
