On Wednesday, ESPN announced they have resigned an NFL analyst who has increasingly received more and more opportunities across numerous shows within the network.
Former NFL wide receiver Andrew Hawkins spent six years in the league, regularly contributing on offense for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns from 2011-2016.
While six seasons in the NFL is certainly nothing to sneeze at, Hawkins could be in for an even better career in media, similar to his colleague Dan Orlovsky who was a career backup in the league before becoming one of ESPN’s most prominent NFL analysts.
Over the past few years, Hawkins has seen an increase in opportunities during football season on shows like Get Up, First Take, NFL Live, and SportsCenter on Snapchat. On top of this, Hawkins has also continued to pursue opportunities outside of the sports media realm, co-hosting the Discovery show Dodgeball Thunderdome along with famous YouTube star David Dobrik.
No exact details were revealed by ESPN in their release regarding how long this new contract could potentially be.
Back in August, ESPN decided to part ways with Robert Griffin III and Samantha Ponder due to “budgetary issues”. And these layoffs have been pretty consistent at the company over the past few years.
If you are going to stick around at ESPN nowadays, you have to find a way to stand out and make an impact on numerous different shows and platforms.
Hawkins has managed to do just that, which is seemingly why he now finds himself as an integral member of the network’s NFL coverage.
