Patrick Mahomes has already gotten comparisons to the great Tom Brady thanks to his three Super Bowls won over the course of eight seasons in the NFL. But following the team’s win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, ESPN NFL analyst Damien Woody had a different comparison for Mahomes involving one of the greatest golfers of all time.

Those who have closely followed the PGA Tour over the years are well aware of the tradition of Tiger Woods showing up in his red polo on Sundays when he finds himself in contention.

While we haven’t regularly seen Woods compete in a PGA Tour events recently, the lore around Tiger Woods in his red polo on a Sunday has been etched in the minds of sports fans for the better part of the last three decades.

On Monday’s edition of Get Up, Woody likened Mahomes’ ability to remain calm under pressure and making his opponents crumble to how Woods had always been able to do the same in his red polo during the final round of tournaments throughout the years.

“You know, I’m just watching the game and I’m thinking to myself, Patrick Mahomes is like Tiger Woods on Sunday wearing that red polo,” said Woody. “In that moment with Tiger on Sunday and you are in that group, you feel his presence. You know he is coming. You know when it is time to make that critical putt, that critical pitch, he is going to make it.

“You know what happens, his competitors get tight. Because they know Tiger Woods is not going to get tight. He is going to make the right play. That’s what we’re seeing from Patrick Mahomes right now. All these guys are playing spectacular. But you know what he does? He makes the right play at the right time. And the other guy simply cannot make those plays.”

If anybody deserves to be thought of in the same light as Tiger Woods, it certainly is someone like Patrick Mahomes.

Amid ridiculous speculation that the Chiefs postseason run has been “fixed” or that the officiating has favored the Chiefs, Mahomes has blocked out the noise and performed when it mattered most.

The fact of the matter is that Mahomes has continuously turned away some of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen from achieving greatness much like Tiger Woods did so many times with the other elite golfers in his era.

We will find out next month whether Mahomes can do so once again against Jalen Hurts and the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, a rematch from when the Chiefs beat Hurts and the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII just two years ago.
