Numerous hard fouls on Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark in recent weeks have sparked debates about how fellow WNBA players may be jealous of the former Iowa Hawkeyes star. And it seems like ESPN NBA broadcaster Doris Burke is largely over the lengthy debates from the national media outlets about the fouls.
Both of the Fever’s recent matchups against the Chicago Sky have resulted in a ton of controversy after Clark was on the receiving end of a pair of hard fouls, first when Chennedy Carter pushed Clark to the ground earlier this month and most recently when Angel Reese was issued a flagrant foul for slapping Clark on the side of the head in Sunday’s contest.
The conversation has largely taken away from Clark’s performance on the floor, which has been exceptional as of late. During Monday’s Game 5 broadcast of the NBA Finals, Doris Burke, who was on the call of the game, wasted no time sharing her thoughts about the largely overblown topic.
In the second quarter of Monday’s matchup, Mavericks forward P.J. Washington was issued a foul after dragging Kristaps Porzingis to the floor while battling for position in the paint.
Doris Burke used this as an opportunity to bring up Clark, saying that if that were Clark that was dragged down it would “spark a debate for a week”.

The harsh truth is that Burke’s joke is also probably true. Anything that happens to Clark on the basketball court at the moment is being amplified to the utmost degree at the moment by figures in sports media.
