Louisiana native and LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has a rather remarkable accent, once described as “like he swallowed gumbo made of gravel,” and that’s previously been parodied by his players. Near the end of their broadcast of LSU’s season-opening 27-0 win over BYU Saturday, ESPN got in on the act, first showing a video of a number of prominent college coaches doing impressions of Orgeron’s accent and then having their broadcast team follow suit.
Here’s the coaches’ video, featuring Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Baylor’s Matt Rhule, North Carolina’s Larry Fedora, and Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley (who declines):
Next, ESPN analyst Brock Huard delivered his own impression:
ESPN play-by-play broadcaster Bob Wischusen followed suit:
And sideline reporter Allison Williams chipped in one of the best, only feet away from Orgeron himself to boot:
That was fun, especially late in a blowout. And it’s interesting to see ESPN personalities having some fun with someone they cover this way.
