Is a late-night talk show at ESPN in Jason Kelce’s future? It’s being discussed.
In his latest post on Puck, John Ourand detailed that “the former Eagles center and podcasting bro and potential T-Swift in-law, is in talks to host his own show on the Worldwide Leader.”
Ourand also went into specifics about what the show would look like. It would not be a nightly show like Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have on NBC, CBS and ABC, respectively. Rather, the show would run once a week in January.
“Kelce’s people and the network are still trying to nail down the specifics, but my sources say the gig wouldn’t be a highlight or recap show,” Ourand reported. “Rather, the concept that seems to have gained the most traction is a late-night show, featuring Kelce with other athletes and celebrities. The show would be produced by NFL Films and licensed to ESPN, which will air it on five consecutive Friday nights—likely 1 a.m. ET on Saturday, to be precise—starting in January, with the hope that the show will create clips that go viral on social over the weekend.”
There’s certainly a lot of sense in doing that. The NFL doesn’t have any true cold periods throughout the year. But in January, when the entire postseason (excluding the Super Bowl) is played, is when the NFL is at its hottest point. To that end, there’s no better time for the league to create those clips that go viral.
A person with Kelce’s personality, who could certainly bring in other big name guests, would seem to be perfect for that role.
