ESPN’s two biggest stars are coming together for a new college football podcast that is sure to shake up the Spotify charts. Of course we’re talking about Pat McAfee and… Stanford Steve.
McAfee needs no introduction as one of the faces of ESPN. And although he made his name in the NFL and has starred as a wrestler and commentator in WWE, he is quickly becoming very much associated with college football. After Lee Corso’s retirement, it was McAfee that closed out College GameDay with a babyface promo segment pumping up the home crowd that could have been done on WWE Raw.
“Stanford” Steve Coughlin might be best known as the running buddy for Scott Van Pelt, in particular with their amazing bad beats segment. Although Coughlin has been working behind the scenes with ESPN as a producer since all the way back in 2004, he now enjoys plenty of time in front of the cameras on SportsCenter with SVP and College GameDay as a betting analyst.
And as McAfee revealed on his Wednesday show, the two will now come together for their own college football podcast.
The podcast, entitled Anudder College Ball Convo with Stanford Steve, will be released weekly. McAfee and his cohorts proceeded to really emphasize the specific pronunciation of “anudder” as, well, another one of their English language idiosyncrasies. The program says the first podcast episode was taped Wednesday morning and is now available on Spotify as a Week 3 preview.
It’s another outlet for Pat McAfee to continue to spread his wings in spite of his own comments about his busy schedule and his need to take a break. He has yet to return to WWE after an extended absence over the summer, but is being promoted to appear at the WrestlePalooza event kicking off the WWE-ESPN partnership in his own backyard of Indianapolis. Whether that leads to another full-time WWE run now or later, at least this new venture with Stanford Steve will help to fill out his schedule for the college football season.
