Ryen Russillo will reportedly return to ESPN on Sept. 5, two weeks after arrest

Per a report from Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch, ESPN Radio host Ryen Russillo will return to the air Sept. 5 after a two-week absence following an arrest in Wyoming last week.

Russillo, who hosts “The Russillo Show” weekdays on ESPN Radio, is accused of drunkenly entering the wrong condo at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, while on vacation in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He allegedly laid down on a bed while almost entirely naked and was “too intoxicated” to comply with a request that he get up and leave. Russillo was arrested and charged with criminal trespass, which reportedly carries a maximum fine of $750. He was released from jail after posting $250 bail and has a court date set for Sept. 13, per the Chicago Tribune.

Russillo has not commented publicly since his arrest. ESPN has also not issued a statement on the situation, other than to say they are looking into it.

Based on Deitsch’s report, it seems ESPN has let Russillo off with a two-week suspension. Though that’s lighter than we might have expected, it feels fairly reasonable. Russillo obviously made a mistake, but he didn’t hurt anyone and was charged with only a misdemeanor.

Will Cain has filled in for Russillo since his arrest and will presumably continue to do so until he returns Sept. 5. Russillo is known for being frank with viewers—for example, he was transparent about his fears of being fired back in April—so we would expect him to address the situation when he returns to the air.
