Alabama had a 28-10 lead on Oklahoma with under a minute left in the first half Saturday night in the College Football Playoff semifinals, when the Crimson Tide were called for a false start on 4th-and-1 at the Sooners’ 15-yard line. The Crimson Tide were lined up to go for it, but the false start made them have to settle for a field goal.
Even with this 18-point lead, Alabama head coach Nick Saban was *not* happy after the penalty (which was Alabama’s third on the drive). This is nothing new when it comes to Saban, and it’s a big reason why he’s won six national championships as a head coach- he’s never satisfied, or at least until his team has locked up a national title. And Saban was so angry about the false start penalty, that he spiked and destroyed his headset.
ESPNEWS is showing the Coaches Film Room broadcast of the game, featuring Arizona State’s Herm Edwards, Boston College’s Steve Addazio, Boise State’s Bryan Harsin, and TCU’s Gary Patterson.
And the coaches broke down Saban’s headset smash, with Edwards — a former longtime ESPN analyst — particularly being all over it:
“This is one of those headset things where you break your headsets, right?”
That’s indeed what happened, and the coaches even gave it the rewind treatment:
