Fantasy Life is getting a boost.
The fantasy sports and gaming company founded by NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry just secured a $7 million seed round as it looks to expand its platform and integrate Guillotine Leagues, a unique week-to-week survival game that’s built a cult following.
Berry, featured on NBC’s Football Night in America and host of Fantasy Football Happy Hour on Peacock, launched Fantasy Life as a media-meets-tech venture aimed at giving fantasy players sharper tools and smarter content. Today, the company stands as the official fantasy tools partner of NBC Sports.
In August 2023, Berry raised $2 million for his media company, attracting investors including Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, AEW President Tony Khan, and Grammy-winning artist John Legend. Ja’Marr Chase and Austin Ekeler are also part of that existing investor lineup.
Now, Fantasy Life is announcing the close of a $7 million funding round led by LRMR Ventures — the family office of LeBron James and Maverick Carter — alongside SC Holdings, led by Jason Stein. Other notable backers include Roger Ehrenberg, David Blitzer, Larry Fitzgerald, Gerry Cardinale, Tony Khan, John Legend, Casey Wasserman, YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley, Fortnite co-creator Donald Mustard, and Sum Ventures, which features NFL star George Kittle and Super Bowl champion Brent Celek.
“My entire adult life has been about helping fantasy players and sports gamers win, have more fun, and make this industry better,” Berry said in a statement. “Fantasy Life is the culmination of my decades of experience — a destination for every kind of player, from beginner to sharp. With smart, personalized tools, entertaining content, and the best damn fantasy game ever in Guillotine Leagues, we’re building a platform as obsessed with fantasy as we are. I’m incredibly honored that so many people I’ve long admired believe in what we’re doing and want to be part of the journey. I can’t wait for everyone to check out the new features and win more titles.”
“We’re always looking for opportunities to invest in smart, creative people and businesses that share our values. What Matthew, Eliot, and the team are building with Fantasy Life hits on everything we look for,” said Maverick Carter. “Their strong brand, incredible growth, and the market size of sports gaming make for a compelling opportunity. As an avid fantasy football and Guillotine League player myself, this is a tech-forward play that we believe will be a game changer for fantasy sports, and we’re proud to co-lead this round with our partners at SC Holdings.”
With strong backing and a clear roadmap, Fantasy Life stands to make a serious impact in the fantasy sports space.
