Warner Bros. announced on Thursday that a July 16, 2021 release date has been set for Space Jam 2. This release date will be 25 years after Space Jam was released in theaters (November 1996).
Space Jam featured Michael Jordan, a few other NBA stars (Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, etc), actors such as Bill Murray, and Looney Tunes cartoon characters taking on a group of aliens known as the Monstars.
But the second installment of the franchise will feature LeBron James as the star, and SpringHill Entertainment — founded by James and Maverick Carter — released a tweet sharing the release date, along with a poster of James, Bugs Bunny, and Lola Bunny.

It was reported in September that Space Jam 2 will be directed by Terence Nance (director of An Oversimplification of Her Beauty; creator of HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness), and will be produced by Ryan Coogler (director/writer of Black Panther and Creed, and executive producer of Creed II).
Space Jam was a box office success, grossing $230.4 million worldwide. We’ll have to wait over two years — despite it being in the works for years— to see if the same can be said for the sequel.
