During its broadcast of Friday night’s Big Ten basketball game between Michigan State and Michigan, Fox put up a graphic with a particularly notable error on it.
As college sports fans know, a team has two records. One record is the overall record while the other is the conference record. Naturally, the overall record is going to include more games than the conference mark. But when Fox displayed the graphic of the conference standings, one team’s record didn’t look quite right.
Ohio State’s 7-9 conference record was displayed along with its overall record of — 5-2.

First off, we’ll clarify Ohio State’s actual record for anyone who might want to know.
The graphic had the overall mark correct. The Buckeyes are 7-9 in Big Ten play. Overall, though, Ohio State is 15-12.
To be fair to whoever put this graphic together, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen or heard a mistake like this be made. In 2023, San Francisco Giants analyst Shawn Estes pointed out that the Milwaukee Brewers were 45-1 when leading after seven innings, despite being only 27-23 at the time of the comments.
It’s funny — but it happens.
