Nick Bosa and Joey Bosa are brothers. They both played at Ohio State. They were both drafted within the top five in the NFL Draft. And they both play defensive end for NFL teams in California.
After that, the similarities stop. Nick plays for the San Francisco 49ers and Joey plays for the LA Chargers. But if you were watching the Panthers-49ers game, you might think that Joey played for the Niners instead.
That’s because the commentary team of Dick Stockton and Mark Schlereth has been referring to Nick Bosa as “Joey” during the game. Stockton seemed to get his Bosa brothers straight but Schlereth was the main culprit to make the freudian slip and it was a little awkward to say the least.
It’s live TV and with many things going on at the same time, sometimes the wrong name comes out in a broadcast. Mistakes happen, and Schlereth isn’t the first person to call a Bosa brother by the wrong name. The point is that hopefully Schlereth or a producer made sure to correct that for the rest of the game. Because referring to Nick as “Joey” once might be bad but is somewhat forgivable. Doing it for the entire game is another story.
It could be worse. ESPN put out a video package for Nick Bosa that called him “Joey” on First Take. That’s a more organized screwup than just getting the wrong name.

Speaking of the real Joey Bosa, he recorded two sacks in a victory over the Bears. So both brothers are having a good day no matter what team they’re supposedly playing for.
