Joy Taylor: ‘It’s a free country, for a couple more days’

Being attached to a workplace misconduct lawsuit hasn’t stopped FS1’s Joy Taylor from dropping hot takes or making noteworthy statements.

Thursday evening on FS1’s Speak, Taylor, Paul Pierce and Keyshawn Johnson were discussing what a Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl three-peat would mean for Patrick Mahomes’ legacy. Johnson argued Mahomes already deserves to be discussed as possibly the greatest quarterback of all-time, while Taylor was reluctant to put him in that conversation.

“Listen, you can talk nonsense if you want to,” Taylor told Johnson. “It’s a free country, for a couple more days.”

It doesn’t take much political prowess to recognize Taylor was using Donald Trump beginning his comeback term as president on Monday, Jan. 20 as the line of demarcation for the United States no longer being a free country.

While half the country helped Trump to a decisive victory over Kamala Harris, others are bracing for the president elect’s second term to be more volatile than his first. Earlier this week, in a farewell address that Stephen A. Smith labeled “sad,” outgoing President Joe Biden warned the country of an “oligarchy” ahead of Trump’s second term.

Taylor is co-hosting Speak despite being named as a defendant in a lawsuit by a former FS1 hairstylist who alleged bullying and abuse at the network. In the lawsuit, Taylor is accused of having sexual relationships with FS1 host Emmanuel Acho and network executive Charlie Dixon to advance her career.

Much like Dixon and Skip Bayless, who were also named as defendants in the lawsuit, Taylor has not addressed the allegations.
