Four thousand and twenty-eight days. That’s how long fans will have gone between the release of the last college football video game and the next one.
While we’ve known for months now that College Football 25 will be coming out this summer, EA Sports made it official on Thursday by announcing a July 19 release date. The video game manufacturer also announced several details regarding its highly anticipated summer release, including that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter and Michigan running back Donovan Edwards will be on the cover of the game’s standard edition.
“Donovan, Quinn and Travis are extraordinary talents who impressed and entertained millions of college football fans on the field last season and are poised to do so again this year,” EA Sports SVP and Group GM Daryl Holt, said in a statement. “We’re proud to be able to incorporate thousands of current athletes in College Football 25, and featuring this trio of playmakers and their iconic college programs on the cover is a perfect fit as we usher in a new era for EA SPORTS and college football. I can’t wait for the world to learn more about the game tomorrow.”
As Holt noted, more news regarding the game is expected to be released on Friday.
The reveal of the release date and standard edition game cover come one week after the game was first listed on the PlayStation store, complete with the cover of the game’s deluxe edition. The release will mark the first edition of EA Sports’ college football franchise — previously known as NCAA Football — since the 2013 release of NCAA Football 14, with the series having been discontinued following Ed O’Bannon’s lawsuit against the NCAA.
The emergence of college athletes being permitted to profit off of their name, image and likeness (NIL), however, opened the door for the return of the franchise, as well as for real players to be featured both in the game and on its cover. And while fans will still have to wait two more months to play College Football 25, that’s relatively nothing compared to the 11-year wait that preceded it.
