Jim Nantz had quite the Canadian Open references

Sunday saw a remarkable finish to the RBC Canadian Open, and quite the calls from CBS announcer Jim Nantz. New Zealand’s Ryan Fox eventually won the event (held at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley this year) in a playoff over American golfer Sam Burns, and that led to Nantz working in a reference to both the host club’s bird-inspired name and Fox’s country’s famous bird on his call of the winning putt:

That wasn’t Nantz’s only allusion involving the eventual winner, though. When it came to the playoff, Nantz brought up how Fox shares a name with a rival network:

Nantz also brought up his own network’s prized evening programming set for later that night:

And he used an unusual nickname for Canadian music star Justin Bieber:

That all adds to a remarkable day for Nantz. He may not have got to call a well-established star down the stretch: Fox is currently 75th in the world rankings, while Burns is tied for 33rd, and some bigger names, including reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy (tied for second in those rankings), crashed out hard early in this tournament (although McIlroy did at least talk to the media this time). But at least Fox’s victory let Nantz make this bird reference.
