Scottie Scheffler has shown to never shy away from the biggest moments. And while Sunday’s final round at the BMW Championship was far from his most pressure-filled spot, it served as another reminder to media members and fans alike of just how historically great Scheffler truly is.

Scheffler came into the final round yet again in contention, four shots behind Robert McIntyre. Unfortunately for McIntyre, it was far from his best round of golf, ceding the lead to Scheffler by the time the two players, who were playing in the same group making up the final pairing, got to the back nine.

The shining moment for Scheffler came on the Par 3 17th hole, leading the tournament by one stroke over McIntyre. After failing to reach the green on his first shot on the hole, Scheffler would hit one of the best shots of his career, chipping in from 81 feet away to go up two strokes and ultimately secure the victory.

NBC play-by-play voice Dan Hicks was in disbelief of Scheffler’s shot, largely offering up a call that was eerily similar to a call from Jack Buck’s call of Kirk Gibson’s famed home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series.

“Can you believe what you just saw!?” said Hicks. “Bobby Mac can’t. Incredible stuff from the world No. 1. Time and again he has done that or similar. And you just shake your head at what you are watching right now in this era.”

The shot was so good that after the event concluded, NBC decided to show a triple box replay of it with multiple different angles of Scheffler’s unbelievable shot.

Countless media members, even those who typically don’t cover golf all that often, if at all, took to social media taking to give Scheffler his flowers for his incredible shot and his fifth victory of the calendar year.

“The best doing it,” wrote ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky.

“This guy!!!!” wrote ESPN college football game analyst Kirk Herbstreit.

“Absolute…. DAWG,” wrote ESPN’s Pat McAfee.

“Of all the incredible shots that Scottie Scheffler has hit, has there ever been a better one than that chip?” wrote ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Scheffler’s game couldn’t be rounding into form at any better time. In just four days, Scheffler is set to attempt to win the Tour Championship for the second time in as many years. And given this most recent performance, it’s quite likely that he will be going into the event as the overwhelming favorite to do just that.
