It’s every golfer’s dream to win the Masters. But some golfers are more realistic about actually achieving those dreams than others… like Tyrell Hatton.
The Englishman has never won a major but has been a consistently good player for a number of years, with seven victories on the PGA Tour or European Tour. He’s also currently the 19th best player in the world. At +6000 odds according to FanDuel, Hatton has a better chance than past champions like Adam Scott and Patrick Reed.
But if you ask Hatton, you’d be wasting your money backing him in any capacity.
In a hilarious interview with Sky Sports in the UK, Hatton was asked what it would take for a third Englishman to win the Masters after Nick Faldo and Danny Willett. He was brutally honest about his own chances.
“You shouldn’t ask me, I’ve got no chance,” was Hatton’s reply. With that the interviewer turned to former US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, who might have slightly more confidence.
Hatton shouldn’t be too down on confidence given he just finished T4 in the last LIV event in Florida and his team, Legion XIII, won the team portion of the tournament. However, he’s also known for his volatility on the course as we saw when he dropped a very NSFW rant that was picked up by the LIV microphones. So maybe this is just a zen-like strategy to lower the temperature and calm himself before the Masters, so that he doesn’t launch into a rant that will instantly get him kicked off Augusta National.
