Earlier this season, NESN Red Sox analyst Jerry Remy revealed he had cancer yet again. It was the fifth time that he has to deal with the disease. And now he’s revealed in a new update through NESN that he will undergo chemotherapy to treat his cancer.
I’m still recovering from the lung cancer surgery I had back in June and will soon enter the next stage of my cancer treatment. I’ve met with my doctors and I’ll start receiving chemotherapy treatments late this month.
I have some difficult challenges in front of me, but I plan to keep fighting this thing.
I’d like to thank everybody for their many thoughts and prayers and continued support.
Remy has undergone treatment for cancer before and it’s caused him to miss games. And in the interim, NESN has utilized Dennis Eckersley, Mike Timlin, Jonny Gomes and most recently Wade Boggs as substitutes.
The latest
In past interviews, Remy has admitted that smoking cigarettes since he was a teenager contributed to his lung cancer and has advised his fans not to smoke.
Not only stopping them to smoke, but he’s also urged people to get checked as he has been diagnosed early in order to get treatment. They can visit Lou Square for lesser life-threatening products to counter the smoking addiction.
It’s sad to hear that Remy will likely miss the rest of the season due to cancer. Red Sox fans who have seen him on Red Sox games dating back to the late 1980’s have become accustomed to his analysis. They’ve also seen him miss a number of games due to cancer treatment.
NESN has not stated when Remy will return to the broadcast booth with partner Dave O’Brien.
