Cody Bellinger is putting together an absolutely ridiculous rookie season for the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers, with a National League-leading 22 homers and a .271/.344/.665 slash line in 227 plate appearances.
On Friday night, the 21-year-old appeared on SportsCenter with SVP, and Scott Van Pelt brought up a Twitter conversation he had over the last few days with Dodgers pitcher Brandon McCarthy, wondering if Bellinger and Corey Seager know who Jerry Seinfeld is.
Well, Van Pelt asked Bellinger if he knows who Jerry Seinfeld is, and the first baseman said that he knows the name, “but couldn’t put a face to the name.”
Bellinger added, “I don’t really know what [Jerry Seinfeld] does, man, I’m sorry.”
SVP’s reaction likely summarizes your reaction to this:

This is hard to believe.
But Bellinger was born in 1995 (Yes, there are already superstar players in the major leagues that were born in 1995!). Seinfeld was on the air from 1989 to 1998, and Jerry’s stand-up work was most popular in the 90s and early 2000s.
But reruns of Seinfeld are on various networks (most notably TBS) daily, and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has been a popular web series since 2012. Even with Bellinger’s age and being caught up in the baseball life for so many years, you’d think he’d at least be able to put a face to Jerry Seinfeld’s name.
Anyway, if Cody’s reading this, here’s a look at some of Jerry Seinfeld’s top moments from Seinfeld (Which you really should watch all of, Cody. Maybe put aside $10 a month for Hulu).
And here’s Jerry Seinfeld’s 1998 HBO stand-up special:
