A very random Twitter feud broke out on Friday night involving former MLB catcher Paul LoDuca, current Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo of MLB.Com, and ESPN’s Keith Law.
After a red-hot start to the 2018 season (11-1 to begin the year), the New York Mets (28-38) have been a train wreck, with numerous injuries and just one win over their last 12 games (they’ve particularly been awful during Jacob deGrom’s outstanding starts, somehow).
If you’ve been following the Mets closely, you’ve likely been mocking the Mets, because they should be mocked.
DiComo follows the Mets closely every single day. And after the Mets’ offense failed to cash in on a 2nd-and-3rd, no-out opportunity during Friday night’s 7-3 loss to the Diamondbacks, DiComo had a tweet with a sarcastic tone mocking the team:
The Mets put runners on second and third with no outs. Guess if they scored! (D-backs 1, Mets 0, mid-2nd.)
Former MLB catcher Paul Lo Duca (currently works for the Action Network and was a member of the Mets in 2006-07), then quote tweeted DiComo. Lo Duca was unhappy that DiComo “bashes” the Mets, and made a “played tuba in the band” jab at DiComo. The tweet has since been deleted, but here’s a screencap:
Gotta love a beat writer who bashes his team constantly but played tuba in the band in H.S. Great work @MLB.
The tuba comment was straight-up weird and a very poor attempt at evaluating DiComo’s ability to cover and analyze a baseball team, which he does a very good job at.
And Law especially wasn’t a fan of Lo Duca’s criticism of DiComo:

Paul Lo Duca, who used steroids & HGH as a player, encouraged teammates to do the same, and cheated on his wife with a 19-year-old when he was 34, is here to try to denigrate a beat writer’s character.
Hoo boy. Lo Duca predictably responded to that takedown and called it a “punk move”:
