After the Chicago Bears’ road game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Jon Greenberg, who covers the Bears for The Athletic, shared a humorous story he had about an interaction with someone who works for the Colts.
The game did not go well for Chicago and its fans. Indianapolis led 7-0 at halftime, 14-3 after three quarters and while the Bears made things somewhat interesting in the fourth quarter, the Colts came away with a 21-16 victory.
Well after the game was over, Greenberg posted on X (formerly Twitter) that, leaving the stadium, a Colts employee told him “It could be worse…you could be could be covering the White Sox.”
That’s a good point. The Chicago White Sox, after all, are wrapping up a season that could best be described as miserable. Like the Bears, the White Sox lost on Sunday. It was the 120th loss of the season for the White Sox, tying a modern MLB record for the most losses in a single season. Following the loss, former White Sox player and manager Ozzie Guillén noted on the postgame show that, with six games left, the White Sox will almost certainly “shatter” the record that they presently share with the 1962 New York Mets.
But while this Colts employee’s heart was certainly in the right place, the logic wasn’t 100% sound, as Greenberg noted.
“I do that too,” Greenberg replied.
From there, the Colts employee had only one response.
“There’s a bar down the street,” the employee said.
Always good knowledge to have.
