Brandon Nimmo plays for the Texas Rangers now, but last season, there were persistent rumors about a rift between him and New York Mets teammate Francisco Lindor.
It might be a moot point now, but the New York Post’s Jon Heyman wanted to make it clear those reports were “bogus.”
“An alleged Brandon Nimmo-Francisco Lindor rift was rumored by one talking head last season,” Heyman wrote on Thursday. That talking head is, presumably, New York sports radio legend Mike Francesa, who floated the notion that the issue between the two teammates stemmed from President Donald Trump.
“The Nimmo-Lindor thing, my understanding, was political. Had to do with Trump. One side liked Trump, one side didn’t like Trump,” Francesa said on his podcast in December. “So, Trump splitting up the Mets between Nimmo and Lindor. That’s my understanding, that it started over Trump, as crazy as that sounds.”
While Heyman admitted there were some issues in the Mets clubhouse last season, he says he spoke with several people, including Lindor, and came away convinced the rumor was “a bunch of bunk.”
“Nimmo and I are brothers. I love him. I love him,” Lindor told the Post. “He’s a great guy. He’s missed around here — good teammate, good person, good family man.”
Heyman added that one person who would know called the rumor “bogus.”
So far, Nimmo’s time with the Rangers is off to a hot start, while Lindor is struggling in his sixth season in New York. Sounds like Nimmo is missed in more ways than one.
