After some speculation to the contrary, the Minnesota Twins will remain under the MLB umbrella regarding their local media rights.
The club, rumored to be considering a return to FanDuel Sports Network similar to what the Cincinnati Reds did earlier this month, will instead stick with its original plan of having the league produce and distribute games. Under the new partnership, Twins fans can purchase a monthly or annual subscription to stream games on Twins.TV is free of blackouts.
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the elimination of blackouts means the Twins will increase their reach by potentially 307% with the addition of markets in North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
Like other teams using the league for production and distribution, the Twins’ streaming service will cost $19.99 monthly or $99.99 per season. Fans can also combine a season plan with broadcasts of all other Major League games, similar to MLB Extra Innings.
As of now, the team has not released details on how fans can access games through a traditional satellite or cable subscription. Per MLB, “Twins.TV will be available on similar satellite and cable providers in which Twins Baseball has been carried in the past. Specific providers will be announced later this offseason.”
The Twins will begin selling subscriptions to Twins.TV on February 11th.
