A young fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Paul Skenes was interviewed in the stands during Thursday’s game against the San Francisco Giants. His answer to a question about Skenes will be remembered for a while.
Skenes, who the Pirates selected first overall in the 2023 MLB Draft, made his third career start on Thursday. A group of students from Amos K. Hutchinson Elementary in Greensburg were on hand for the game. In the top of the fifth inning, Hannah Mears, the sideline reporter for the Pirates on SportsNet Pittsburgh went to interview members of the group.
Many people in the group were wearing fake mustaches to honor Skenes. One young fan, Cooper, drew a mustache on his face. As the conversation was wrapping up, Mears asked Cooper, “What’s your favorite thing about Mr. Paul Skenes?” That was an easy question.
“His mustache and Livvy Dunne,” he said with little hesitation, even putting extra emphasis on Dunne’s name.
Dunne, of course, is a member of LSU’s national championship women’s gymnastics team, an NIL star as well as Skenes’ girlfriend.
