SABR announced Thursday that the organization plans to adopt a new scholarship fund in the name of one of baseball’s brightest personalities. Sarah Langs, a well-known researcher and analyst throughout Major League Baseball, will have her name attached to the new Women in Baseball Analytics Scholarship.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the new @SlangsOnSports Women in Baseball Analytics Scholarship!” SABR announced. “Open to any female-identifying students or young professionals to attend the 2024 #SABRAnalytics Conference & gain access to our online certification courses.”
SABR’s official release on the launch of the scholarship read:
Named in honor of baseball researcher and analyst Sarah Langs, SABR is thrilled to introduce the Sarah Langs Women in Baseball Analytics Scholarship. Awarded annually to two recipients, the scholarship will provide meaningful professional development and networking opportunities for female-identifying students or young professionals pursuing a career in baseball analytics and data science.
The organization said that recipients of the scholarship will also receive registration for the annual SABR Conference, courses in SABR’s Analytics Certification program, and a one-year membership to SABR, which allows access to their quarterly scholar session virtual events.
Langs has gained fame and notoriety in baseball circles over the years. Her X account is littered with stats and did-you-knows from wall to wall. But Langs also received attention for another notable reason: Her fight with ALS. She’s spiritedly fought the disease, creating a fundraiser called “#FistBumps4ALS.” RotoWear also worked with PitchingNinja to produce T-shirts in support of Langs and her battle.
