This has been a season to forget for the Chicago White Sox.
For the second straight night, the Sox blew a big lead against their crosstown rival Chicago Cubs, resulting in a 7-6 Cubs victory after a walk-off homerun by outfielder Mike Tauchman.
It was the 13th consecutive loss for the White Sox who fell to 15-46 on the season and are on pace to finish the year with a 40-122 record, which would mark the lowest win total for an MLB season since the 1962 Mets went 40-120.
Former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, who led the team to a World Series victory in the 2005 season, has had a front row seat to the suffering this season, as he’s now part of the NBC Sports Chicago pregame and postgame shows for the team.
Guillen sounded off Wednesday night after the team’s latest loss.
“People have to understand, we’re not just pregame and postgame analysts. Unfortunately, I am a White Sox fan. Everything I have in my life is because of the White Sox. I earned it, but it’s because of the White Sox,” Guillen said of the team that he spent over 20 combined years playing for and managing.
Guillen did, however, find a saving grace.
“The funny thing is, I get paid to be hurt,” he said. “Some people pay to be hurt.”
