Oftentimes in life, we are our own toughest critics. That was the position that CBS Sports’ NBA analyst Ashley Nicole Moss found herself in on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, Moss discussed the blockbuster trade Luka Dončić-Anthony Davis trade with Jordan Giorgio. Moss felt that both the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers could make more moves before Thursday’s trade deadline. Specifically, she floated the idea that Davis’ stay in Dallas might be a short one, thinking that the Mavericks could flip Davis to the Miami Heat for Jimmy Butler.
“I’d be interested if Anthony Davis is a piece that ultimately the Mavericks potentially use to try to get Jimmy Butler. They weren’t gonna send Luka to Miami, in all intents and purposes, they were probably gonna require a lot more than Miami was going to be willing to give up,” Moss said. “But maybe a swap between Anthony Davis and Jimmy Butler is more feasible…If you ask me which of the two is going to make the bigger move by the trade deadline — outside of what just transpired — my money would be on the Mavericks possibly going after Jimmy Butler.”
Upon some reflection, Moss changed her mind a few hours later.
Responding to the CBS Sports post on X (formerly Twitter), Moss said that her own take was “trash.”
yeah, this take is trash 🚮 https://t.co/w7p2F2OJOF

While we’d like to disagree with Moss here, we can’t. Dallas might pursue a trade for Butler. But trading Dončić for Anthony Davis just to turn around and flip him for a 35-year-old Jimmy Butler would be hard to justify.
But to be fair to Moss, the trade the Mavericks actually did make is also hard to justify. So even if the take was trash, we can understand how she came to it.
