You may have heard the NBA’s fastest rising media star became the head coach of the league’s most storied franchise this summer, when JJ Redick left ESPN and ThreeFourTwo Productions to coach the Los Angeles Lakers.
Now his signature podcast, The Old Man and the Three, is back — without him.
The first episode of The Young Man and the Three will drop this week as Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton joins host Tommy Alter to interview former President Barack Obama.
With a new format and new partnerships coming, the show will now serve as a hub for a rotating cast of players around the NBA and WNBA to talk hoops, break down the game, interview guests, and deliver personal content straight to a massive audience.
Those players will include regular hosts like Haliburton, New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy and retired all-time WNBA assist leader Sue Bird — among many others. Expect All-Stars like Tyrese Maxey and Paolo Banchero to be involved as well.
Redick made news constantly with big interviews around the NBA. His conversations with Hall of Famers, NBA champions like Jayson Tatum, and young prodigies like Victor Wembanyama shed light on a different side of the league’s top stars. Don’t be surprised if many of those guests join the new-look show in a larger role.
The show’s original cohost and boss Tommy Alter is still leading the way alongside top producer Jason Gallagher.
The original OM3 network is sticking around too. The company will continue to produce the Xs and Os show The Dunker Spot with Steve Jones Jr. and Nekias Duncan, and plans to relaunch The Old Man and the Three Things soon with a new cohost.

Mind the Game could be back as well. The brief first run of the show ended after Redick joined his cohost LeBron James in L.A. But sources tell Awful Announcing a social media tease asking for suggestions on a new cohost was indeed a sign that there are talks of that show’s return.
OM3 has big plans beyond the Obama interview when it returns this week. And if its original run and rise from Redick’s passion project to a legit media brand is any indication, YM3 will make waves.
