On Monday, the Dallas Mavericks officially announced their replacement for longtime radio color analyst Brad Davis, who announced his retirement over the summer.
In a statement that also announced the launch of MavsTV, their new telecast home, the organization announced that Brian Dameris will serve as the team’s new radio color analyst alongside Chuck Cooperstein.
Prior to this announcement, Dameris held several roles within the organization, which included serving as a studio analyst on Mavericks TV broadcasts and co-hosting a Mavericks postgame radio show on 98.7 The Ticket in Dallas.
If the name Brian Dameris rings a bell to you, it may be because he famously had some tough criticism for James Harden last season, calling him “the problem” instead of his nickname, “the beard” after a game between the Clippers and the Mavericks.
Dameris will have some big shoes to fill when it comes to Davis, who spent nearly four decades within the organization as both a broadcaster and a player.
Davis first spent 12 years with the organization as a player from 1980 to 1992, later becoming one of four players to ever have their number retired by the organization. He then returned to the organization in 1997 as a color analyst on the team’s radio broadcast team, a role that he held through the 2023-24 season.
Dameris may have a tough time matching the impact that Davis has had within the Mavericks organization over the years. But regardless, it will be interesting to see the new-look radio broadcast in action for their season-opening game on Thursday night against the San Antonio Spurs.
