Nikola Jokić bored by NBA Media Day: ‘I don’t know why we’re doing it’

Nikola Jokić doesn’t want a parade; he doesn’t even want fame, so naturally, the Denver Nuggets superstar has no use for Media Day.

NBA training camps officially open next week, which means it’s time for Media Day! The Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets held their Media Days this week, with the rest of the league going on Sept. 30 before camps open Oct. 1. What is NBA Media Day?

A glorified picture day that Jokić is very much bored with.

While holding his press conference Thursday morning, Jokić fielded a question from Mile High Sports reporter Ryan Blackburn, who noted it was the three-time MVP’s 10th Media Day. Blackburn asked Jokić what he remembered from his first couple of Media Days and whether anything had changed about the event.

“No, every year is the same thing, and I don’t know why we’re doing it every year,” Jokić responded with a deadpan look. “Everything is the same. Completely the same thing.”

The blunt response was predictably on brand for Jokić, who seems perturbed whenever he’s forced to spend a day away from Serbia for anything other than a game. This is an NBA superstar who looked distraught last year when he won the NBA Finals on a Monday and learned he had to wait for the championship parade on Thursday before going home to Serbia.

And having to leave home to take some pictures and offer literal answers to generic questions was never going to excite Jokić. Most NBA players probably don’t see much value in Media Day, which means Jokić definitely doesn’t want to be there.
