Last Sunday, CBS play-play-play man Jim Nantz delighted college basketball viewers with his repeated promos for the upcoming 60 Minutes interview with adult-film star Stormy Daniels. Something about hearing that famous voice booming out the name Stormy Daniels was just too much for some people to handle.
The attention Nantz’s promo-reads drew last weekend might have been what inspired an amusing segment on Friday’s episode of The Dan Patrick Show. With Nantz on as a guest, Patrick handed him a list of fake promos featuring ridiculous — often paradoxical — could-be CBS shows and asked him to read them as he would during a broadcast.
The shows included “The Odorless Smell”…
And “Stupidity as Genius”…
And “CSI: Duluth”…
Nantz’s entire brand is built on a buttoned-up country-club image cultivated from decades of calling The Masters, so yes, it is somewhat funny to hear him say “The Bigger Bang Theory: The Stormy Daniels Story.”
Honestly, if you didn’t know better, it wouldn’t be easy to tell the difference between the fake shows Patrick had Nantz promote and the real ones that Joe Buck has been mindlessly hyping for years during Fox’s World Series broadcasts.
Here is the full Nantz interview on Patrick’s show, if you’re interested in his thoughts on subjects beyond oxymoronic fake CBS shows.
