LeBron James, Peyton Manning, and the Obamas are joining forces to create a docuseries that sounds like the NBA version of Netflix’s Quarterback.
As first reported by the Wall Street Journal, James’s SpringHill Company is in discussions with Manning’s Omaha Productions to create the show that would follow the lives of NBA superstars. They also reported that Higher Ground Productions, the production company of former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, is also involved in the discussions.
Netflix is “expected” to be the home of the docuseries.
It’s currently unknown which NBA stars would be featured in this series, though given that SpringHill was founded by James and Maverick Carter, it’s likely they’ll able to attract major names.
Omaha Productions produced Quarterback, which was a huge success on Netflix earlier this year, though it appears to be struggling to find subjects to appear in future editions. According to the WSJ, they are considering focusing on players at other positions, such as wide receivers, to mitigate that issue.
The series would be a no-brainer for Netflix, which has invested heavily in sports docuseries and seen lots of success in the vertical. Along with Quarterback, the Drive to Survive series follows Formula 1 racers, Break Point follows professional tennis players, and Full Swing follows professional golfers.
