As Jalen Hurts heads to his second Super Bowl in three years, Emmanuel Acho believes the quarterback’s critics look foolish.
Hurts remains an easy target for critics because he doesn’t put up gaudy passing numbers. Even when Hurts scores a touchdown, it usually comes from his teammates literally pushing him into the end zone.
But according to Acho, there is only one statistic that matters. Winning. And few quarterbacks do that better than Hurts.

“If you are still critical of Jalen Hurts, then what are you doing?” Acho asked on FS1’s The Facility. “I said what Albert Einstein said, ‘If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing its stupid.’ People are judging Jalen Hurts by things other than winning and that’s why everybody has become stupid in that sense.”
“Jalen Hurts has proven he is the second-best winner in the National Football League since he entered the National Football League, only second to Patrick Mahomes,” Acho continued. “The only thing that should be of importance is winning. The only statistic that matters as it pertains to quarterback play is winning…and that’s what Jalen Hurts does best. Even a fish, if you judge it by its ability to climb a tree, will live its whole life thinking its stupid. And the critics, at this point, of Jalen Hurts, they’re stupid.”
Cam Newton recently criticized Hurts’ ego. Colin Cowherd questioned whether Hurts is good enough to quarterback the Eagles into the red zone against the Kansas City Chiefs. And even Emmanuel Acho’s co-host Chase Daniel has admittedly been a vocal Hurts critic. Hurts, meanwhile, remains quiet just keeps winning.
Sure, we can dispel the notion that the “only” statistic that matters is winning by pointing to the careers of Dan Marino and Trent Dilfer. No one is arguing that Jalen Hurts is on the verge of cementing his place on the Mount Rushmore of NFL quarterbacks, we hope. But at this point, no one should be claiming Hurts is a weak link for the Eagles either.
