In many ways, Colin Cowherd and Jason McIntyre are a great fit for one another. What they do on The Herd works — and it’s successful. But they’re probably also the last people in sports media you’d want to help you with an Immaculate Grid.
McIntyre made an error — albeit a small one — during the end of Friday’s show. As he and Cowherd looked into the top 10 players in the NFC Championship, they later focused their attention on the Buffalo Bills-Kansas City Chiefs matchup in the closing seconds before kicking things off to First Things First.
It was a fairly benign conversation as Cowherd delved into the depths of the Bills’ depth chart, touting how Buffalo does really well with the Matt Milano’s and the Ed Oliver’s of the world.
And then there was Edmunds…
Who?
As Cowherd searched for more Bills contributors, McIntyre tossed out “Edmunds.” He trailed off, mumbling something else that was inaudible. It might have made sense in the context of the 2022 AFC Divisional Round when Tremaine Edmunds registered nine tackles. But that was the last time Edmunds wore a Bills uniform.
A former first-round pick out of Virginia Tech, Edmunds inked a four-year, $72 million deal with the Chicago Bears in March 2023. He impressed enough to earn an average annual value (AAV) of $18 million, though perhaps not in the way McIntyre might have thought.
Among the mistakes you can make, it’s a relatively harmless one. But Edmunds hasn’t been with Buffalo in over two years, yet this show seems to make these types of errors all too often.
We don’t need to dig too deep into our archives to recall when Cowherd credited Kirk Cousins — not Case Keenum — for the Minneapolis Miracle. Or the time earlier this season when Cowherd thought Christian Wilkins was still with the Miami Dolphins, while McIntyre believed Matt Ryan was still leading the Falcons.
And just last season, McIntyre was still raving about young New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who will turn 36 this August.
McIntyre and Cowherd certainly know their stuff, but The Herd seems to have these types of gaffes more than other shows.
If the Bills want to use Edmunds on Sunday, the Chiefs should be able to call in Charvarius Ward or maybe even L’Jarius Sneed. It’s only fair.
