Matt LaFleur gives reporters reminder about phone policy after emergency alerts interrupt presser

On Wednesday, it became quite clear why the Green Bay Packers organization typically have a no-phone policy inside their press room when nearly every reporter in the building had their phone go off with the sounds of a high-pitched, screeching iPhone emergency alert.

Speaking to reporters about how the offseason has gone to this point for fourth-year guard Sean Rhyan, LaFleur was interrupted in the middle of speaking by several different iPhone emergency alerts, which appeared to anger LaFleur, citing the team’s no-phone policy in a snarky, passive-aggressive comment about the distraction.

“All of you guys and your phones,” said LaFleur during Wednesday’s press conference after the team’s first day of training camp. “That’s why I don’t have a phone in here… This is why we have our rule. No phones.”

This interruption caused LaFleur to completely lose his train of thought, admitting as much by declaring that he had forgotten the question he was asked about Rhyan.

“So… I don’t even know what the question is,” said LaFleur.

To be fair to LaFleur, the sound was incredibly distracting and would almost certainly throw off just about any coach in the league if they were put in the same situation.

But with that being said, given the wide range of potentially serious issues the alert could have been related to, many fans thought that LaFleur may have been a bit insensitive in his snarky comment to reporters about their phones going off.

It’s not exactly shocking to see LaFleur a bit irritating at all of the reporters who had their phones go off in this situation when you consider the lengthy track record of testy interactions with reporters in the past. So expect much of the same from LaFleur as we approach the start of the 2025 NFL season.
