Wednesday night was “pretty crazy” for the Detroit Lions quarterback.
Jared Goff was perhaps working on a puzzle or maybe even cuddled up with a good book when his phone was ringing off the hook. No, Goff hadn’t been traded, nor did the Lions manage to pull off a megadeal for Micah Parsons. Goff was interrupted by whatever he was doing because Taylor Swift name-dropped him during her highly publicized appearance, which broke the internet and seemingly Goff’s phone, too.
“Jason, on our first date, I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing five feet in front of him on the field,” Swift told the real breakout star of the biggest episode in New Heights podcast history, which is now sitting comfortably over 17 million viewers on YouTube.
“I now know what an insane question that was,” Swift added. “I thought everyone was on the field at the same time. I thought that the quarterbacks — no, you don’t understand, I thought it was like Jared Goff is here and Josh Allen’s here. And they blow a whistle and go at each other… And it’s like, who’s going to win?”
Jason Kelce would love to see Goff play some defense.
As for Goff, he had to play defense on his phone.
“Pretty crazy, huh?” Goff told a group of the gathered Detroit media earlier this week. “Very cool, I guess. That was a crazy couple of hours for me and my phone. I was like, ‘Oh, OK.’ But, yeah, kind of cool.”
Goff didn’t offer the same introspective analysis that Taylor Swift, NFL Draft analyst, gave on Xavier Worthy and different coverages. Still, he handled being name-dropped by perhaps the biggest star on the planet with ease. He’s adept at dealing with media attention, though he might not be ready for the constant spotlight that Swift and Travis Kelce navigate every day. But that’s a story for another New Heights episode.
