The Buffalo Sabres had a big night on Tuesday, posting a dominant win over the Boston Bruins. Near the end of the game, Boston announcer Judd Sirott used the success of Buffalo’s NHL team to troll the city’s NFL team.
With the outcome of the game long decided, Buffalo’s Zach Benson scored with just seconds remaining, giving the Sabres a 7-2 lead, which stood as the final score.
“Goal No. 7,” Sirott said, narrating a replay of the goal. Then, after a slight pause, Sirott noted the shortcomings of the Buffalo Bills in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs. “The touchdown that Buffalo needed in Kansas City.”
As painful as the memory may be to relive for Buffalo’s fans, Sirott wasn’t wrong. The Bills finished on the wrong end of a 32-29 final score, needing a field goal to tie or a touchdown to beat the Chiefs. But as we all know by now (and if we didn’t, Sirott was there for a helpful reminder), that didn’t happen.
Kansas City does not have an NHL team and the Bruins have no games remaining against the Philadelphia Flyers this season. So, regardless of Super Bowl LIX’s result, the losing fans may be safe from another Sirott stray.
